MIDAS Ireland welcomes the announcement of 'Silicon Island': A National Semiconductor Strategy.

We are delighted that Ireland’s well established and very successful semiconductor is being recognized as strategically important with a Semiconductor Advisory Council to be established to provide the necessary future leadership.

The strategy identifies many opportunities for growth and future development, with specific actions listed to support these opportunities, which collectively provide significant societal benefits and address many of the world’s greatest challenges .

MIDAS looks forward to working with all the stakeholders across the ecosystem on the next steps of the strategy implementation to ensure the ambition is achieved.

We heard from Minister Peter Burke, Anne-marie Tierney-Le Roux–IDA Ireland, Paul Kelleher–Qualcomm, Denis Doyle–Tyndall National Institute, Siobhán Ní Chofaigh–Mint-Tek – We are the prototype people, and John Mackey–MBRYONICS about how Silicon Island can set out a clear roadmap to grow Ireland’s semiconductor sector.

The Strategy recognises the semiconductor industry as a crucial enabler of innovation and digital growth. Key objectives include:
▶️ securing major industrial investments, including a leading-edge fabrication facility in a regional location,
▶️ supporting start-ups and spinouts through access to finance and commercialisation pathways,
▶️ strengthening research capacity and promoting Ireland internationally as a hub of semiconductor excellence.
